Happy Thursday class! Great seeing you today on this sunny spring-like day. As we move closer toward the Spring it will be important that you complete all class work. Everything we work on in class is designed to prepare you for our final, and to allow you to demonstrate learning toward our learning targets. Grades are due on Monday, so be sure to turn in any late or incomplete work by tomorrow, Friday!
Learning Target:
Learning Target:
- I can self-direct my learning
- I can demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various economic systems.
- I can gather evidence from sources to support my thesis for my economic systems op-ed
- RAP: To open class, students first brainstormed evidence of strengths and weaknesses of the four economic systems we've studied: traditional, capitalist, command, and mixed. This activity served two purposes. First, it allowed students to review previous learning. Second, it gave students a chance to brainstorm evidence to later use in their upcoming economic systems op-ed assignments.
- Main Stage: Using the evidence brainstormed at the beginning of class, we then discussed the importance of creating a strong thesis. After introducing students to the importance of thesis statements, and brainstorming together elements that make thesis statements strong, students wrote their own thesis statements in groups and then shared them with the class on our "thesis wall." We will be using this "thesis wall" to allow students to borrow and share ideas with one another.
- Closing: To end class, students began collecting evidence and writing their economic systems op-eds using the graphic organizer provided at the end of Tuesday's class. Students also completed an exit ticket that allowed me to track their progress thus far and identify any roadblocks in their writing.
