Happy Friday economics scholars! I hope you all plan to have a wonderful weekend. I loved your engagement and appreciated your focus this week as we work to define economics. Your positive energy makes me quite excited for the rest of the semester with you!
Learning Target:
Learning Target:
- I can self-direct my learning
- I can demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various economic systems.
- I can write an argument for how #NoDAPL is connected to economics.
- RAP: To open class students began exploring, and taking notes from, several documents about the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline and #NoDAPL movement. Last class we identified and discussed arguments for or against the pipeline. Today I pushed students to dig deeper so that they can demonstrate their learning by writing an argument for exactly how #NoDAPL is an economic argument. At each station students read, identified, and gathered additional information they could use to write their arguments using SOME of these documents.
- Main Stage: After gathering evidence, students then wrote their arguments. I introduced my ARE-gument template for how to make an effective argument: Assertion, Reasoning, and Evidence. Using this template, students wrote their arguments and submitted them on Canvas. (Log into Canvas for the assignment).
- Closing: To end class, I reviewed students exit tickets from the previous class and connected #NoDAPL with our next learning topic: Economic Systems. After watching a short clip, I asked students to complete an exit ticket that allows me to preview their understanding of Capitalism.
