Hi Economics! We will now dive deeper into the basic principles of economics. Be sure to complete all assignments on time. I want you to be successful in class and ensure that your grade reflects your learning!
Learning Target:
Learning Target:
- I can self-direct my learning
- I can demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of economics.
- I can analyze how scarcity, opportunity cost, efficiency, and utility shape economic decision-making.
- RAP: To open class, students wrote about a personal decision-making dilemma. I asked students to write and share what they would do if they were standing in the candy isle and had $10 to spend. They had to spend it, and had lots of choices. What would they do? This served as a warm up for today's lesson.
- Main Stage: To better understand the key concepts and terms involved in economic decision-making, students completed brief 10 minute Cornell notes (see class slides for notes). Afterward, I introduced the WHS scholarship decision-making scenario. Whether or not to attend college will be the most important economic decision many students will make within the next few years. Using this real-world example, students had to analyze how a committee of students should award a scholarship.
- Closing: Students worked in pairs to complete the WHS scholarship decision-making scenario as I walked around and supported their work. Students worked on these worksheets in class, but did not turn them in.
