Happy Tuesday global studies scholars! What a productive and useful day, here's what we worked on:
Learning Targets:
Learning Targets:
- I can demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of locations and regions (KN 7).
- I can communicate and work effectively within a team or group (BLT 3).
- I can demonstrate understanding of the characteristics of locations and regions by revising my "Where I'm From" poem.
- RAP: To open class, we reviewed key terms and concepts related to the themes of geography and the types of maps through a speed dating activity. We reviewed these terms in order to refresh and refocus our thinking ahead of our "Where I'm From" project. See the class slides for the terms, or see the "Where I'm From" Summative Assessment assignment sheet.
- Critical Friends Groups: With drafts of their "Where I'm From" poems in hand, students provided support and feedback to one another through a strategy called Critical Friends Groups. Students used checklists to help one another incorporate their geography thinking into their poems, and provided one another with encouragement and support in writing their poems.
- "Where I'm From" Workshop: Students spent the remainder of class working on their poems and presentations.
