Hi Global Studies students! I hope you have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving break. You have worked hard thus far this school year and should be proud of your successful transition to Westview. I hope you're able to take the time needed to reflect on your first couple months in school. Here's what we worked on today:
Learning Targets:
Learning Targets:
- I can explain how culture both reflects and shapes society (KN 15).
- I can communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing (CO 1).
- I can self-direct my learning (BLT 1).
- I can analyze the argument made in Horace Miner's "Body Ritual of the Nacirema."
- RAP: Culture bags! Yet another lovely day of culture bag presentations. Thanks to everyone for bringing their all. It is absolutely a treat for me to get to work with such a diverse and culturally rich group of students.
- Main Stage: Analyzing the (ARE)-gument of Horace Miner's "Body Ritual of the Nacirema." Building on our work from the previous two classes, students took their understanding of culture a step further by analyzing the argument of Miner's satirical article about American culture. Students worked in groups to brainstorm responses to the following questions.
- Closing: To finish class, students completed their ARE analysis of Miner's argument about American culture.
