Happy Friday! Here are, nearing the end of our first unit, "Where I'm From." Here's what we worked on today:
Learning Targets:
Learning Targets:
- I can demonstrate understanding of the characteristics of locations and regions (KN 7).
- I can self-direct my work (BLT 2).
- I can demonstrate understanding of the characteristics of locations and regions by revising my "Where I'm From" poem.
- RAP - Caribbean Map peer Assessment. Students worked in pairs to review and complete the peer assessment checklist. The purpose of this activity is to teach students the expectations and rubrics for the Story of World Maps assignment, while providing each other with useful feedback.
- What is Geographic Inference? The Caribbean, Hurricane Matthew, and Climate Change: Students then completed a set of Cornell notes while viewing images of the damage Hurricane Matthew inflicted on Haiti, analyzing the term Geographic Inference, and then examining data from charts and maps (see class slides).
- Where I'm From Final assignment: We then reviewed the final assignment for our first unit, "Where I'm From." Students will be revisiting their "Where I'm From" poems that they wrote at the beginning of the year and revising (re-writing) to demonstrate their understanding of the characteristics of locations and regions. To do so, students must include examples of each theme of geography (MR. HELP). The assignment packet provides instructions and supports for brainstorming the connections. Students should bring a rough draft of their poems to class on Tuesday October 25th. The final project is due Thursday October 27th. Please feel free to email me or see me at school with all your good questions.
