Hi economics! One more week until Spring Break! Ah! This week will be an odd-one. On Monday and Wednesday, a majority of you will be out of class taking the SBAC tests. Don't worry, you will not miss any new instruction. We will spend Monday and Wednesday workshopping our op-ed's before turning them in on Friday.
Learning Target:
Learning Target:
- I can self-direct my learning
- I can demonstrate an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of various economic systems.
- I can write an argumentative op-ed using evidence to support a strong thesis.
- RAP: To open class, we discussed and reviewed best practices for writing an essay, and reviewed a student example op-ed. Students identified various best practices they have learned from previous social studies and language arts courses. Click here to review Harvard University's guide to effective essay writing.
- Main Stage: Students spent the majority of the period workshopping their op-eds. For most, this meant gathering evidence, writing, and refining their writing. For students that completed their op-eds, this gave them a chance to peer review and receive feedback from one another.
- Closing: To end class, students chose a line or two from their essay and shared aloud. Sharing our work is such an important part of the writing process, and allows students to learn from one another while the writing is still fresh.
