First, today is National Day of Silence. Thanks to everyone who took time to thoughtfully reflect on how we can best support and advocate for all students at WHS, especially students who identify as LGBTQ. Also, whew is it summer already? What a beautiful day outside! Be sure to enjoy your Friday and weekend, but also do not forget to continue working on our current project, which will be due in the next two weeks!
Learning Target:
Learning Target:
- I can self-direct my learning
- I can demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of economics.
- I can simulate how a market functions using the example of a market for wheat
- RAP: To open class, students spent time reflecting on National Day of Silence through a photo carousel and small discussions. Then, students received instructions for Part B of their "What can a humble _____ tell us about the world?" Project. After I modeled research strategies, students spent some time in class working on their projects.
- Main Stage: Students then spent the majority of class simulating a market for wheat. Students became buyers and sellers of bushels of wheat for the day, some making incredible profits while others seemingly unable to find a way to exchange their goods and services. Unfortunately this sort of assignment cannot be made up outside of class. But this served as a spring board into learning about the tools of supply and demand
- Closing: To end class, students spent time reflecting on their wheat simulation, and beginning to identify terms such as supply, demand, price, shortage, and surplus. We will continue this on Tuesday since not all classes completed this part.
