Happy Summer Solstice everyone! Today is our last day of class work related to our learning target "I can explain the impacts of revolutionary movements." Thanks for giving your all in class. Friendly reminder, we'll spend our final class time together in Lower North 126-127 on Thursday. We'll be combining Global Studies and Lit/Comp classes and spending time reflecting and celebrating our year together.
Learning Targets:
Learning Targets:
- I can explain the impacts of nationalism and revolutionary movements.
- I can participate in a socratic seminar to make meaning of Dr. MLK's "Revolution of Values."
- RAP: We used the first part of class preparing for our three rounds of socratic seminars about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Revolution of Values," excerpts from his 1968 "Beyond Vietnam" speech. Students formed groups of three (socratic seminar groups), and shared their notes with one another. We also used this time to gather a class set of questions to guide our discussions of the text.
- Main Stage: We spent the bulk of class in socratic seminar. The purpose of the socratic seminar is two-fold. First, to allow students to make deeper meaning of the text by incorporating their own analysis and background knowledge. Second, the process of socratic seminar provides students with an opportunity to practice demonstrating knowledge verbally. We had three rounds of socratic seminar to provide everyone with an opportunity to participate.
- Closing: We ended class by spending time reflecting on our socratic seminar. I asked students a series of questions to prompt reflection about their learning and the process of discussing an article.
