Hi Global Studies scholars! Great work to everyone today, I particularly loved hearing some of your internal monologues. Also, lets remember that within Beaverton School District, we accept all students, regardless of their race, gender, ethnicity, economic status, and immigration status. Thanks for working to keep our school safe and welcoming for everyone.
Learning Targets:
Learning Targets:
- I can explain how culture both shapes and reflects society.
- I can demonstrate understanding of the characteristics of locations and regions.
- I can explain how and why societies organize themselves and how power is organized and maintained.
- I can communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- I can illustrate elements of Ladakh society using notes from the film and reading.
- RAP: To open class, students first reviewed their understanding about Ladakh by reading aloud their internal monologues in small groups and giving one another appreciations about their writing. The purpose here is to help students develop empathy for the changes taking place in Ladakh and apply what they've learned in a creative writing prompt.
- Main Stage: Next, students received prompts to illustrate what they've learned about the geography, culture, and government of Ladakh. The purpose here is to allow students to apply what they know about these topics through the case study of Ladakh. Students worked in small groups to complete one illustration, able to help one another remember how we've learned to analyze geography, culture, and government. Students will present these illustrations to one another before we launch into our next and final lesson about Ladakh. Here is the prompt for the geography illustration, here is the prompt for the culture illustration, and here is the prompt for the government illustration. Students will need to have one illustration ready to hand in next week.
- Closing: We did not get to start the trial today: The case of cultural destruction of Ladakh. We will begin the trial on Thursday.
